NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada Applauds Introduction of Legislation to Lock Into State Law Protections for Those Traveling From Out of State for Abortion Care

Carson City Today, Nevada Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro introduced legislation (SB 131) that would lock into state law an executive order signed by former Gov. Steve Sisolak  to protect those traveling from out of state seeking an abortion and providers. This bill would protect the licensing of reproductive health care providers in the state, explore licensing reciprocity for abortion providers, prohibit the state from extraditing reproductive health care providers who are charged in another state for providing services that are legal in Nevada, and bar the state from participating in investigations into certain reproductive health care services.

NARAL Pro-Choice Southwest Regional Director Caroline Mello Roberson released the following statement in response:

“In the aftermath of the Supreme Court ending Roe v. Wade, Nevada is playing a crucial role in our region for those traveling to seek abortion care because they have been blocked from accessing it in their home state. As a state with a voter-affirmed right to abortion, we must explore every avenue we can take to protect reproductive freedom—and that’s exactly why this bill is so important. We’re grateful to Majority Leader Cannizzaro for championing this legislation, and NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada and our 48,000 members are ready to get to work by her side to fight for it to become law.”

For over 50 years, NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels—including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and post-partum care, and paid family leave—for every body. NARAL is powered by its 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country, representing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
