NARAL Nevada Applauds Gov Sisolak for Standing Up for Reproductive Freedom

For the first time in 20 years, Nevada women and families have a partner in the Governor’s Mansion

This evening, newly-elected Governor Steve Sisolak delivered his first State of the State address to members of the Nevada State Assembly. Throughout his Gubernatorial campaign, Sisolak pledged to make fighting for reproductive freedom a top priority. Tonight, he renewed that vow, when he recommitment to putting women’s healthcare first and announced an additional $3 million per year allocated towards family planning services statewide. Sisolak also made it clear that fighting for equal pay for equal work and instituting fair parental leave programs for Nevada families would continue to be a top goal.

NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada State Director, Caroline Mello Roberson applauded Sisolak for his bold support for women and families:

“Nevada women have a history of being battleborn trailblazers in the fight for reproductive freedom, and for the first time in two decades, we have a pro-choice champion and an ally in the Governor’s Mansion—Steve Sisolak. On the campaign trail, Sisolak was a tireless fighter for abortion access and care for women and families, and tonight, in his first State of the State, he made it clear that creating a vision of reproductive freedom for Nevadans will be a key issue as Governor. NARAL members across the state applaud Sisolak for standing with us as we begin this new chapter of equality, dignity, and freedom here in Nevada.”

NARAL members across Nevada were pivotal in helping to elect a slate of pro-choice champions with Governor Sisolak at the helm. Nevada is now the first state to have a female-controlled legislature, is represented by two women in the U.S. Senate, and has the first pro-choice Democratic Governor in over 20 years.
